MANU NATIONAL PARK & AMARAKAERI INDIGENOUS COMMUNAL RESERVE

The program includes 8 unforgettable days of adventure in the Peruvian Amazon. The journey begins in Cusco, pass through different ecological zones from the Andes to the lowlands, including a trek through the lush jungles of Manu National Park and Indigenous Communal Reserve Amarakaeri, where we will see the wildlife of the area and also we will know more about indigenous groups living in these forests: the Amarakaeris and Yines.

 

Will visit parrots and macaws clay lick, tapir lick, meandering lakes, all this, navigating the mighty Madre de Dios River. The Trip is also recommended for birdwatchers, botanists and all kinds of people willing to hike, camp, explore and enjoy comfortable lodging in this beautiful Jungle.

1st Day, Friday. Cusco – "Manu Botanical Center" (B, L, D)

Departure by local bus at 5:00 am. In about 4 hours we will arrive to Acjanaco pass located at 3,500 m.a.s.l., Acjanaco is the entrance to Manu National Park, and also de final part of the Andes and the beginning point of the amazon. We will continue another 4 hours more to reach the Pillcopata Town (700 m.a.s.l.) Then we will continue 3 hours more Walking until Atalaya port From there we will take a wood motor boat to until our camp site called "Manu Botanical Garden" where we are working on a new development project, focusing on useful species reforestation and forest recovery where we will spent the night in a local hostel. To the camp site will arrive in approximately 40 minutes by boat. We will have dinner and after we can go to walk in to the forest to see nocturnal animals from the jungle.

2nd Day, Saturday. "Manu Botanical Center" – Shintuya Native Community. (B, L, D)

Early in the morning we will be moving downstream with a motor boat in 20 minutes we will arrive at a beach in front of a cliff (lick) where hundreds of parrots, parakeets and macaws provide us with a colorful and lively show, (on that can be appreciated only if good weather).
Then we will return to the camp site to have breakfast and after we will board the boat with all our luggage and start navigating downstream for approximately 3 hours. today we will arrive to a native community (Shintuya) populated by the ethnic group of Amarakaeri, will be of interest to know their way of life and culture, this night will spent camping in front of the community in a beautiful place where there are hot springs in which we can take a relaxing bath.

3rd Day Sunday. Shintuya Native community - Matziguenka Traditional medicine Center (B, L, D)

Before breakfast we will board the boat to visit a very special place located on the banks of the river, where every morning with good weather Join hundreds of parrots at a clay lick to feed on a special clay that is rich in minerals, the show is really colorful, lively and pleasant, then will return to the lodge to have breakfast. Later we will walking in the forest around the Pantiacolla plateau. At noon we will start our journey again navigating in our boat to a Lodge located within the Forest, this place is called traditional medicine center of Matsiguenkas there we receive a healer Mateo Matsiguenka expert on medicinal plants in the area, in addition to introducing us to world also for those interested leads night ceremonies psycho active plants such as Ayahuasca (Banisteriopsis caapi). For those seeking contact with the forest and animals, in the afternoon we will hike in the forest and at night we bet in absolute silence one of the places known locally as "Collpa" (mammals lick) are special places visited daily by mammals such as the Tapir (Tapirus terrestris) the properties contained in the soil of these licks are essential to the diet of most herbivores habit animals, with a little luck we may spot some casual visitors then back to our Lodge for dinner.

4th Day, Monday, Matziguenka Traditional medicine Center – Boca Manu (B, L, D)
Early in the morning will start to navigate in approximately in 3 hour we will arrive to Boca Manu Village, we will stop to visit the town mainly dedicated to wooden boat building and then we will continue by boat 10 minutes more to the house of an ethnic Yine person, we will camp near his home. In the afternoon we will visit an impressive oxbow lake called "Isla de los valles", where we can see many birds and mammals like the Giant River Otter, when nichts arrive are also possible to spot the Black Cayman. Night sharing with the native family.

5th Day, Tuesday, Boca manu - "Charro Lodge" (B, L, D)

Early morning we will visit an impressive lagoon on "Isla de los Valles", where we can see many birds and other mammals frequently visit these places in the morning. We return for breakfast and then take a one hour navigate upstream the impressive river Manu, where you can find different types of animals, we will go until "Limonal" (one of the Manu National Park control point), here we visit the interesting trails and a swamp is a forest of palm trees where you can see different types of birds. Returning, the trip continues to the "charro lodge" located near to a beautiful meandering lake, here we spend the night in comfortable rooms and enjoy the surrounding nature and wildlife will hike in the afternoon and evening.

6th Day, Wednesday, "Charro Lodge" – Blanquillo (B, L, D)

This morning we'll do some hiking in the trails of the area and then take our boat navigating for about 3 hours to the "Blanco Lodge" where we will spend the night in comfortable rooms. In the afternoon we will climb to an observation tower 40 meters high next to a lake to observe the forest from above. At night we will hike in to the forest to see the animals of the night.

7th Day, Thursday. Blanquillo Lodge – Puerto Maldonado (B, L,)

Very early we go to a hiding place in front of the Macaws clay lick; the guide will explain the reason for the presence of parrots and macaws here. Gradually, dozens of parrots begin to come to the lick, often have been to hundreds of them. Then will come the most colorful Birds: the macaws (Ara sp.). After to Watch this wonderful show, we will continue another 4 hours Navigation to Puerto Colorado a mining town, here we take a car over a bumpy Amazon road crossing rivers and possible obstacles along the way, after about 6 hours we will arrive to Puerto Maldonado City, we will settle in a comfortable lodge in Puerto Maldonado, bathroom, shower and a refreshing pool. Optional evening with traditional food and dancing in Puerto Maldonado.

8th Day, Friday, Puerto Maldonado – Cusco (B)

In the morning after breakfast we will visit the market and the city of Puerto Maldonado, and then we will have free time to have a relaxing and refreshing swim in the pool of our lodge. At 4:00 pm our bus goes back to Cusco City, which arrives in Cusco at approximately 4:00 am. End of service.

Option returns. By plane to Cusco or Lima: The members who so wish may return to Cusco or Lima by plane (flights are in the morning) and have to pay the cost of the flight.
