TREKKING & CAMPING

The program includes eight unforgettable days of adventure in the Peruvian Amazon, from the Andes to the lowlands including the Manu National Park and the Amarakaeri Native Reserve where we observe wildlife and learn more about the culture of the native inhabitants of these forests: (the Amarakaeris and Yines). Visiting parrots and macaws clay lick, Tapir lick, meandering lakes, all sailing on the mighty Madre de Dios river. The route is also recommended for, botanists, and people willing to hike and camp in this beautiful Jungle.

DAY 1. WEDNESDAY: CUSCO – MANU BOTANICAL CENTER
Departure by local bus at 5:00 am. In about 4 hours we will arrive to Acjanaco pass located at 3,500 m.a.s.l., Acjanaco is the entrance to Manu National Park, we continue other 4 hours to Pillcopata town, for lunch at a local restaurant. The journey will continue with 1 hours by bus until Atalaya river port, we will begin to descend the glossy waters of the Alto Madre de Dios River in a motor boat, in approximately one hour navigation we will arrive at our private reserve, where we are working on a new project development, focused on the forest recovery and reforestation with useful species, (exist the possibility for those who want to join to the volunteer program at no cost, just assuming personal expenses).Overnight Camping.

DAY 2. THURSDAY: MANU BOTANICAL CENTER
This morning we awake with the sound of the River. This morning activity is visit to Machuwasi lagoon located in front of our private reserve, using a rudimentary boat (catamaran) we will floating in the glass of water that forms this gap twists, habitat and shelter for different species of wildlife such as monkeys , turtles and others. In the afternoon will make a walk in the forest that surrounds us, with the possibility of seeing some mammals among so many other things, after dinner, for those who wish we will have a night walk to listening the wonderful music of nature and to see insects, frogs, tarantulas, etc. Night in camp.

DAY 3. FRIDAY: MANU BOTANICAL CENTER
At dawn we will be moving downstream with a motor boat in 20 minutes to reach a beach in front of a cliff (clay lick) where hundreds of parrots, parakeets and macaws provide us with a colorful and lively show, (an activity which may be appreciated only if there is good weather).
Un the morning we will learn about the work here and we can participate doing some activities in the construction, gardening or others in the place. In the afternoon we have another interesting walk trough our trail systems with more chances to spot wildlife. Overnight camping.

DAY 4. SATURDAY "MANU BOTANICAL CENTER" - SHINTUYA
This morning we will have a new opportunity to visit the parrots clay lick, then back to the camp site to have breakfast and board the boat with all our equipment and we will start sailing downstream for approximately 3 hours until to arrive a native community (Shintuya) populated by ethnic of Amarakaeri will be very interesting to learn and know their way of life and culture, this night we will spend camping in front of the community in a beautiful place where there are hot springs where you can swim.

DAY 5. SUNDAY: SHINTUYA - YANAYACO
Before breakfast we will board the boat to visit again a very special place located on the edge of the river, where every morning early hundreds of parrots and macaws join in the clay lick to feed on a special clay that is rich in minerals, the show is really nice, Later, after breakfast we will walk in the forest that surrounds us. At noon start our journey again navigating with our boat downstream to a lodge located within the forest and spend the night there in comfortable rooms. This night we will walk two hours to a hiding place that is in front of a Collpa (clay lick) this lick is especially for mammals in especial for Tapirs (Tapirus terrestris) the largest mammal in South America, This mammal is mainly nocturnal and vegetarian food habits, they go to eat the minerals that are important for digestion.ç

DAY 6. MONDAY: YANAYACO - BOCA MANU
Early in the morning will start sailing approximately in 1 hour we will arrive to Boca Manu Village, we will stop to visit the town mainly dedicated to wooden boat building and then we will sail 10 minutes to the house of an ethnic Yine, we will camp near his home. In the afternoon we will visit an impressive oxbow lake called "Isla de los valles", where we can see many birds and mammals like the Giant River Otter, when nichts arrive are also possible to spot the Black Cayman. Night sharing with the native family.

DAY 7. TUESDAY: BOCA MANU - "MANU BOTANICAL CENTER"
Early in the morning we navigate through this impressive Manu river, where is possible to see many macaws, turtles or even the Jaguar (Panthera onca), Later we start our return trip to the "Manu Botanical Garden" navigating 7-8 hours up streams the Madre de Dios River, carefully looking for wildlife along the river until we reach our camp where we will spend our last night.

DAY 8. WEDNESDAY: "MANU BOTANICAL CENTER" - CUSCO
This morning we will hike the trails of the area in search of more flora and fauna, and at noon start our return journey, first by boat untill Atalaya port and then walking for 3 hours until pillcopata, and then by bus from Pillcopata to Cusco leaving at 7:00 pm arriving to cusco on Thursday early (5:00 am). End of our services.
