The Manu National Park in Peru is the most extensive Reserve of tropical forest in the planet, with almost two million hectares; located in southeast Peru between the department of

Cusco and Madre de Dios, it is a very important part of the Amazonian river basin. In 1977 it was declared by UNESCO: Biosphere Reserve and recognized in 1987 like world patrimony of the Humanity. The program includes 10 unforgettable days of adventure in the Peruvian Amazon, across different ecological levels from the Andes to the lowland

Day 1st.- Cusco – Asuncion: With the first light in the morning a 4x4 truck with the guide, the driver and the cook will pick you up from your hotel, Together. We start the trip south. Our first stop is 25 km from Cusco in "Huacarpay" lake to an observation tower where it is possible to see many birds around the lake. In the mean time the cook will serve breakfast on a side of the lake. We continue our trip East and on the way we will visit the beautiful folkloric colonial town of "Paucartambo", we also stop in the pass of "Acjanacu" (3850masl) entrance point to the park, here is also the separation point between the Andes and the beginning of the Amazon basin. After lunch we descend through different kinds of forest, where it is possible to see the grand diversity of flora and fauna. This is the habitat for mammals like the Spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatos), a unique bear in south America, the Andean fox (Cerdocyon thous), the puma (puma concolor) and others. This is also the habitat of many species of birds like eagles, raptors and other colourful tropical birds like the famous Cock of the rock (Rupicola peruviana) an endemic bird of the cloud forest; around are possible to find Cedars, more than 600 species of ferns, orchids and begonias etc. We continue our trip until Asuncion Lodge (800 masl). Overnight in bungalows with private toilets and hot water.

Day 2nd.- Asuncion – Soga de Oro Lodge: After breakfast we continue by road to Pilcopata's town (optional river rafting with US$ 25 extra), here we make a short stop and then we continue 45 minutes more to the river port of "Atalaya" to board a motor boat and navigate around 40mnts, until we arrive to the Soga de Oro Lodge, here we have rustic accommodation, with double rooms, living room and private toilets and showers; we stay the next two nights here, visiting the 35 protected hectares of this Reserve and enjoying the interesting trail system. This afternoon we walk into the trails with opportunities to spot some of the inhabitants of the jungle. Optional nocturnal hike.

Day 3rd.- Soga de Oro Lodge : Early wake up to depart for the marvelous "collpa" activity where hundreds of parrots, parakeets and some species of macaws congregate each morning to clay lick, here it is possible to watch from a side of the river without disturbing them. We return to the lodge for a good breakfast. Later, we go into the forest along the trails to observe the flora and fauna like monkeys or other animals and visit an oxbow lake, habitat of a big quantity of birds like the "hoatzin" (Opisthocomus hoatzin) particular for its modus vivendi, related as been the connection of evolution between reptiles and birds. By night in the lodge we have the chance to hear stories from the guide and explanations about what we have seen. An optional night walk is possible to hear the music of jungle as frogs, tarantulas, crickets, grasshoppers or other interesting nocturnal animals.

Day 4th – Soga de Oro Lodge – Cusco: After breakfast we board the boat for the returning trip to Cusco city until we reach Atalaya's port, where our car will be waiting to drive us back to Cusco city. Here is the end of our services.

 

All activities may be changed depending of weather or river conditions.

• Naturalist guide are available in English, Italian and German by previous agreement.

• Complete meals (3 per day) vegetarian by request, also coffee, tea and snacks during the trip.

What we recommend to take:
• Lightweight in a backpack and a daypack for the walking.
• Long cotton pants and long sleeved cotton shirts.
• Warm jacket for cool weather.
• Raingear or "Poncho"
• Swimsuit, sunglasses, hat or cap, also sun protector and a tower.
• Trekking shoes and sandals
• Insect repellent with high deet percentage
• Flash light or headlight.
• Binoculars
• Camera with enough films at leas 200 exp.
• A canteen or a bottle of water to be fill during the trip. Enough water for the firs day.
• Extra money for drinks or handicrafts.
• Your personal gear.
