ITINERARY:

The snow peak Salkantay, with 6,372 meters of height is considered a sacred mountain since Inca times. The paths surrounding it are of Inca manufacturing, and form part of its marvelous view, allowing as well observing its impressive snow peaks and glaciers. The trek starts at a nice village called Mollepata, and as long as we ascend we will see the snow peaks showing up along the valley. Te first will be the Humantay, and then the impressive Salkantay. The trek ends across the mountains at a tropical valley of the river Vilcanota, close from Machupicchu.

DAY CUSCO - MOLLEPATA - SORAYPAMPA
You will be picked up from your hotel early in the morning, we cross the little and picturesque villages Izcuchaca, Zurite, Ancahuasi, then the ruins of Tarawasi. We will arrive at Mollepata, from here the trek begin. Camp at the head of the trail, Markokasa.

DAY SORAYPAMPA - PASO HUMANYAY - CHALLHUAY
That day we will ascend to the passage of Humantay, through seven zigzags on a forty five minutes walk. From this mountain opening there may be seen the valley of Santa Teresa, as well as the top of its mountains, and lagoons. Through that valley starts the ascending until a place denominated Chalhuay, where we will finally camp.

DAY CHALLHUAY - SANTA TERESA
Continuing downhill with the trek, we will arrive to Santa Teresa, a small tropical village on the banks of the river Vilcanota -a village affected time ago by an avalanche originated on the snow peak Salkantay, destructing the railway that connected the village with Cusco and Quillabamba. On the third day we shall stay there, camping near the fields of oranges, bananas and other varieties of fruits of the area. The weather there is warm and pleasing.

DAY SANTA TERESA - HATUN PAMPA
Aguas Calientes. On the fourth day we will walk through the valley of the river Vilcanota, following the old train-rail towards the hydroelectric plant of Machupicchu. It will take us four hours to arrive there in order to take the local train, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, towards the village of Aguas Calientes or Machupicchu. There we will stay at a two stars hotel, very nice and clean. At night-time we will visit the thermal baths.

DAY AGUAS CALIENTES - CUSCO
Early in the morning starts the visit to the sanctuary of Machupicchu. Therefore, we will take the bus uphill from Aguas Calientes to the archeological complex. After entering it, it will start a guided tour of approximately two hours. There-on the passengers may stay by themselves, in the sanctuary, for two hours, in order to return, after that, to Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon, it will take place the return to Cusco. At the train station in Cusco a bus will be waiting for you to take you to your respective hotel.
