DAY MONDAY:
Leave in local bus at 7.30 am, approximately 4hrs later we get to Acjanaco located 3,500 meters above sea level, instead of entering the Manu National Park, we will start an interesting hike15 km. up the refuge of Tres Cruces at 3,850 meters , where we will camp in tents with mattresses.
DAY TUESDAY:
The viewpoint of Tres Cruces is known for its famous sunrise, which is the reason why we awake early, and if good weather is with us we can have a spectacular sunrise, overlooking the Amazon Basin at 3850 meters. After an abundant breakfast we leave the campsite to begin a very interesting walk seven hours inside the Manu National Park, passing from the Andean Grassland or Paramo (3850m) until reach this afternoon San Pedro in the heart of the Cloud Forest (1400 meters), where we camp.
DAY WEDNESDAY:
We awake this morning with the first light to appreciate (better with the help of a binocular) the beginning of the activity of thousands of tropical birds, including the famous Cock of the Rock (Peru's national bird). We come back to our camp to eat a good breakfast, and be ready for the next destination, partly on foot and other by public transportation; we arrive to camp on a beautiful beach on the Kosñipata River, located near the village of Pilcopata (700msnm).
OPTION 1 – Wednesday:
Return to Cusco this evening with local bus, departure 20.00 hr, from Pilcopata, arrival to Cusco Thursday at 6.00 a.m
“LUPUNA” RESERVE
OPTION 2 – Wednesday:
Departure at 7.30 hr from the city of Cusco to join the group this night in Pilcopata, arrival at 17:00 hrs.
DAY THURSDAY:
We awake on the beach with the sound of the river, after sunrise and breakfast we begin descending by rafting the shiny water of the Kosñipata River. Before arrive at the first port of the Alto Madre de Dios River the Kosñipata River will join the Quero, Tono and Piñi Piñi Rivers, now it becomes wider and more tropical.
We make a short visit at the port of Atalaya, then we leave the Andes behind continuing one more hour rafting through the snake shape Madre de Dios River situated at the beginning of the Amazon Basin (around three hours of rafting). This afternoon we arrive at the private “Lupuna” Reserve where there is a good trails system for spotting flora and fauna, as well as basic facilities for camping such as toilets, showers and dining room. This afternoon there will be a hike in the forest that surrounds us, with the possibility of spotting some mammal among many other things, optional nocturnal hike.
DAY FRIDAY:
Very early we will be moving downstream with a motorboat, in 20 minutes we arrive at a beach located on front of a cliff (collpa) where hundreds of parrots, parakeets and macaws provide a colorful and noisy show, (this activity can be appreciate only if good weather). At the end of this pleasant activity we go back to take a good breakfast.
OPTION 1 – Friday:
After breakfast for those who may wish return to the city of Cusco, the boat return to Atalaya’s port, from where in two hours walking reaches the town of Pilcopata and take the local bus that leaves at 7.30 pm to Cusco arriving Saturday in the early morning.
PANTIACOLLA PLATEAU
OPTION 2 – Friday:
Departure at 7:30 am by bus from the city of Cusco to Pilcopata, here make a connection to the village of Salvacion, overnight here in local hostel and leave early in the morning to Shintuya, arrival to join the group on Saturday at 9:00 am.
For those that continue the trip, this Friday after breakfast once more we take our rubber boat and navigate downstream the Alto Madre de Dios River approximately 5 hours, then we stop for camping on a beach in the vicinity of the mysterious Pantiacolla Plateau, a place known among fanatics looking for “The Lost City”, El Dorado or Paititi, this area belongs to the ethnic natives groups of the Amarakaeri and Matsiguenkas.
DAY SATURDAY:
After breakfast (this day we meet the passengers who departed Friday from Cusco) and then we leave the river and penetrate the Pantiacolla hill, experts natives walk with us through these mysterious forests, when the nightfall we will camp in the interior of the jungle.
DAY SUNDAY:
A day hiking up to the viewpoint of the Pantiacolla plateau where we can enjoy a stunning view of 360 degrees, camping in the middle of the jungle.
DAY MONDAY:
This day we are ready for the way back that take us almost the whole day walking, arriving when is dark in the native community Amarakaeri “Shintuya”, where we camp not far from the village.
DAY TUESDAY:
Today, we have the possibility of relaxing swimming in the river and walking down the road to a suitable place for camping waiting until the next day for the local bus that take us back.
DAY WEDNESDAY:
At ten o'clock we leave with the local bus to the village of Pilcopata where we change bus in order to reach the city of Cusco arriving Thursday in the early hours of the morning.
