Peru’s mega bio-diversity is worldwide recognized, due to its heterogenic geography, more than 60% of its territory is Amazon. Here the wildlife is exuberant, and without been exaggerating we can say that is a real natural paradise where the biggest quantity of the planet species are concentrated, such as mammals, insects, birds, plants and other ways of life, many of them has not been studied yet and others not even discovered.
Nevertheless, the danger and the threat that this natural world confronts, are a latent reality, and if human beings do not change their attitudes in relation to the correct use of the natural resources, probably the human being will never ever will have the opportunity to find out the existence of many species. In such a way these species will be disappearing for ever before even being known. If this seems to be not enough, do not forget that at least 25% of all well-known and used drugs in the world, are fruits of found chemical mechanisms in the greatest pharmacy of the world: “the Amazonian Forest”, nowadays we only know 5% of what in there exists.
In these last 100 years the destruction of the amazonian river basins has been constant and exaggerated, for all the ways of life “including the indigenous populations” appearing a greater impact throughout all the accessible routes of communication, like highways and navigable rivers. Due to this reason, the last forests of lesser human impact are in the Eastern slopes of the great mountain range “the Andes”, where a strongly rustic geography restrained the insatiable greed of our “civilization”, in the same way the fluvial access by the eastern side, becomes too dangerous when coming near of the Andean slopes where the waters become very mighty, making difficult therefore the extraction and commercialization of so much wealth.
To penetrate in the Amazonian river basin having as starting point the city of Cusco, offers the opportunity to cross one of the most unexplored forests of the planet, and also the opportunity to descend gradually a reduction of varies altitude ranges from 3500masl, until arriving approximately at the lowland forest of 350masl. The diversity of ecosystems that are crossed while we are descending are practically unknown by lack of suitable studies, the number of endemism is incalculable. The secrets that the nature still keeps jealously could be the solution of many diseases that today afflict to human beings, and unfortunately day to day are disappearing in front of our incredulous eyes. |
